The day you took your first breath, your lifelong journey with giving and taking began. We all need to inhale and exhale to survive. We need both giving and taking.

 

Breathing out is a symbol of giving, working, helping and sharing your precious gifts with the world. But sometimes we get so caught up in giving that we neglect the vital act of taking a breath by filling ourselves with what is needed to sustain life.

Self-care is taking time to fill yourself up with what is needed to survive and a way to remind yourself that you are worthy and powerful.

Just to clear the air: Self-care is not selfish, expensive or about overindulging yourself. It’s not a luxury, but vital for building resilience toward the stressors in life that you can’t eliminate. It’s an act of survival and without it you will be left feeling overwhelmed, tired and ill-equipped to handle life’s inevitable challenges.

True self-care is making the conscious choice to build a life you don’t need to regularly escape from by establishing simple, habitual actions that create balance and health in your life.
